Weightlifting Seminar in Toronto | April 21st, 2024
On April 21st, 2024, I held a second one-day weightlifting seminar at Eastern Bloc Strength Gym in Toronto. This seminar featured a different group of athletes than the April 14th session, which allowed for personalized coaching and a fresh training atmosphere.
Eastern Bloc Strength Gym once again provided an excellent environment for lifting, with high-quality platforms, barbells, racks, and a supportive community. This made it easy for every athlete to focus fully on technique and improvement.
Snatch Technical Work
We began the seminar with mobility and warm-up structure, followed by a detailed breakdown of the snatch.
Athletes practiced:
- correct bar path
- balance and foot pressure
- extension timing
- turnover mechanics
- stable receiving positions
With individual corrections, lifters improved quickly, especially in bar contact and speed under the bar.
Clean & Jerk Technical Development
The second part of the weightlifting seminar was dedicated to the clean & jerk.
We worked on:
- front rack stability
- clean pull variations
- Receiving the clean with confidence
- dip and drive mechanics
- split jerk and power jerk footwork
- overhead lockout and stability
Each athlete was coached based on their unique strengths and weaknesses.
Strength Training – Romanian Methodology
As with all seminars, we included strength work inspired by Romanian national team training.
We focused on:
- squats
- presses
- pulling exercises
- accessory movements for positional strength
Athletes learned how to structure their weekly training and how Romanian lifters build strength over time.
Q&A and Interaction
The seminar ended with a Q&A session covering technique, programming, warm-ups, and recovery. The group at Eastern Bloc Strength was very engaged, making the session productive and informative.
The April 21st Toronto seminar was an excellent day of progress, technical refinement, and strong lifting.
