2-Day Intensive Weightlifting Seminar in Toronto, Canada (April 13–14, 2024) | Gabriel Sincraian
On April 13–14, 2024, I held a two-day weightlifting seminar at Eastern Bloc Strength Gym in Toronto, Canada. The purpose of the seminar was to give athletes a complete technical and practical experience with both Olympic lifts, following the same Romanian-style methods I used throughout my career. The gym offered excellent equipment, platforms, and a very supportive community, making it the perfect host for this event.
The seminar was divided into two full training days:
Day 1 focused on the snatch, while Day 2 focused on the clean & jerk and strength work.
This structure allowed athletes to go deep into each lift without rushing, giving them time to understand details, receive corrections, and apply them through repetition.
Day 1 – Snatch Technique, Bar Path & Overhead Stability
We started Day 1 with warm-up structure, barbell positions, and mobility drills specific to the snatch. Athletes learned how to set up correctly, how to control the bar path, and how to maintain balance through the entire lift.
Throughout the session, we worked on:
- correct pulling mechanics
- using the legs efficiently
- proper bar contact
- timing of the extension
- speed under the bar
- stability in the receiving position
The athletes also practiced several derivative exercises such as muscle snatch, snatch high-pull variations, power snatch, and overhead balance drills. These helped reinforce the technique and build confidence.
Each participant received individual adjustments based on their mobility, strength, and level of experience. By the end of the day, the whole group showed clear improvements in timing, precision, and bar control.
Day 2 – Clean & Jerk Technique and Strength Development
The second day of the weightlifting seminar was dedicated to the clean & jerk. We began with front rack mobility and clean pull technique to build strong positions for the turnover.
During the clean portion, we focused on:
- powerful but efficient extension
- catching the bar with stability
- front squat speed and rhythm
- improving bar contact and turnover speed
After developing the clean, we moved into the jerk technique. Athletes worked on:
- dip and drive mechanics
- overhead lockout
- split jerk and power jerk footwork
- maintaining balance and stability under heavy loads
Each lifter performed multiple sets while I corrected their form and provided detailed cues. Many athletes fixed long-standing issues with timing and overhead control.
Romanian-Style Strength Work
To complete the seminar, we included strength exercises inspired by Romanian weightlifting methodology. These lifts help build the foundation needed for strong and consistent Olympic lifts.
We trained:
- squats
- presses
- pulling variations
- positional strength work
- accessories targeting weak points
Athletes also learned how to structure their strength sessions, how often to squat, and how to balance heavy work with technical training throughout the week.
Q&A, Feedback, and Community Atmosphere
Both days ended with Q&A sessions covering technique corrections, programming ideas, warm-up strategies, mobility solutions, and long-term development in Olympic lifting. The group at Eastern Bloc Strength Gym was highly motivated and asked great questions throughout the seminar.
The April 13–14 Toronto weightlifting seminar was a great experience with a hardworking group of athletes, strong progress, and a top-level environment provided by Eastern Bloc Strength Gym.
This two-day weightlifting seminar in Toronto was one of the most productive events of the year. Athletes made fast improvements in both technique and strength, and Eastern Bloc Strength Gym provided the ideal environment for high-quality Olympic weightlifting training.
