Weightlifting Seminar at CrossFit Epsom | September 9th, 2023
On September 9th, 2023, I held a full-day weightlifting seminar at CrossFit Epsom, one of the most supportive and well-equipped training communities in the UK. This event brought together athletes eager to improve their Olympic lifts, understand Romanian training principles, and receive direct coaching in a practical and motivating environment.
CrossFit Epsom provided the perfect setup for a seminar like this. The space, platforms, and equipment allowed every athlete to work safely and efficiently, and the gym’s community atmosphere made the day even better.
Snatch Technique Focus
We began the seminar with mobility, warm-up structure, and bar path control. The first part of the day focused on snatch fundamentals. Athletes practiced positions, balance, timing, turnover speed, and receiving technique. Many participants made quick improvements after adjusting footwork, grip stability, and pull timing.
Throughout this section, I shared the same technical cues and corrections I learned during my years of training in the Romanian national system. Small details made a big difference for the group.
Clean & Jerk Technical Progression
The second part of the weightlifting seminar focused on clean and jerk technique. We worked on front rack mobility, clean pull mechanics, foot placement, and how to stay strong through the turnover.
During the jerk portion, we practiced dip and drive consistency, overhead stability, and receiving positions. Athletes performed repetitions while I reviewed each lift and offered individual cues.
Romanian-Style Strength Work
To complete the training day, we moved into strength exercises inspired by the Romanian system. We worked on squats, pulls, presses, and accessories to address weaknesses and reinforce proper positions. These methods helped athletes understand why Romanian lifters build so much strength over time through simple but consistent training.
Athlete Interaction & Coaching
One of the most important elements of the seminar was the direct interaction with each lifter. I spent time adjusting technique individually, answering questions, and giving personalized feedback. The group at CrossFit Epsom was motivated, curious, and very open to learning.
Final Review & Q&A
We finished the day with a Q&A session covering technique corrections, programming ideas, recovery strategies, and long-term development in Olympic weightlifting. The energy in the gym was great, and the progress from morning to afternoon was very visible.
The September 9th weightlifting seminar at CrossFit Epsom was a memorable event with a strong group of athletes who worked hard and improved quickly.
